THE ARTIST

I feel that the everything around me, both natural and invented, is waiting to be interpreted - reinvented perhaps - according to my own observations and reactions.

I think every artist must feel this way; also that the more intense the observation, the more inspired and moving the interpretation can become.

Perhaps this is why some paintings are more successful than others in the eyes of the both the artist and the beholder.

When I decide to begin a painting, I’m wanting not only to get an image of what I’m seeing, but in some way to capture the "essence" of what’s there.

I’d like to communicate what it was that caught my attention in the first place.

Line and color should lead the viewers’ eyes so that, hopefully, the impact approaches what I felt when I decided on the subject.

If the painting is in the realistic tradition, or is semi-abstract, or is even highly non-figurative, I always begin from an observation of something in the world around me.

I enjoy painting still lifes, portraits of people and animals, interiors and outdoor scenes, in both realistic and abstract styles.

I also create fine lamps, starting with plain glass bases and applying decoupage, gilding and painting to the inside surfaces.

These may be custom made, according to any theme.
L'ARTISTA

Sento che tutto ciò che mi circonda, sia il naturale sia l'inventato, non aspetta altro che di essere interpretato - reinventato, forse - secondo le mie personali osservazioni e reazioni.

Credo che ogni artista deve sentirsi così; credo, inoltre, che più intenso sia osservazione, più ispirato e commovente possa diventare l'interpretazione.

Sarà forse per questo che alcuni quadri risultino più riusciti di altri sotto lo sguardo sia del artista sia del fruitore.

Quando decido di iniziare un quadro, è mia volontà non solo ottenere un'immagine di quel che sto vedendo, ma, in qualche misura, di catturarne "l'essenza".

Vorrei comunicare che cosa mi ha colto l'attenzione e spinto a iniziare.

I tratti e i colori dovrebbero guidare gli occhi di chi guarda di modo che, si spera, l'impatto si avvicina alle mie proprie sensazioni al momento di scegliere il soggetto da rappresentare.

Che il dipinto sia stilisticamente nella tradizione realista, oppure in quella semi-astratta, o sia perfino completamente non-figurativo, io comincio sempre da un'osservazione di qualcosa che si trova nel mondo che mi circonda.

Mi diletto a dipingere nature morte, ritratti di persone e animali, interni e paesaggi, adoperando stili sia realisti sia astratti.

Creo anche eleganti lampade, partendo da basi di vetro semplici per poi applicare decoupage, oro liquido e pittura ad olio alle superficie interne.

Queste possono essere eseguite anche su ordinazione, secondo qualsivoglia tematica.
