THE ARTIST

Pierino Narducci was born in Arpino (Latium, Italy), in 1937, and has lived - as well as in his birthplace - in Macerata, Turin, Chiavari, Caserta and Rome. He is presently residing in Bracciano (Rome).

His artistic gift revealed itself at a very early age, when, at school, a teacher had Pierino execute blackboard drawings for him.

Throughout the second half of the 1950's, he took various courses in Turin - drawing, billboard illustration, fashion design, etc., and studied the painting of nudes with Neapolitan artist Domenico Spinosa. Following high-school graduation in (Naples, 1964), he studied architecture in Rome off and on for three years.

The lengthiness of this period of artistic formation was due to his financial need for steady work, which, fortunately, Narducci found in the field of meteorology. Meteorology was to prove the perfect discpline for a person such as he, requiring, as it does, an intuitive mind as well as the practical application of exacting graphic talent; many of Narducci's dozens of weather maps have found their way into teaching manuals and other works on the subject, the last published in a special number of the periodical "L'Esploratore" (Rome, 1974).

We have before us, then, not a "Sunday painter", but an artist with a serious technical background who, at the same time - freed of the kind of conditioning inevitable in the "professional" art environment - has preserved many fascinating naif elements.

His forte is portraiture, using various media, which he executeswith particular gusto, so much so that he laments the fact that nowadays it's becoming increasingly difficult to find enough individuals with the time required to pose. Also worthy of note are his urban scenes, often imbued with the kind of impressionistic glow we see in some of Maurice Utrillo's works.

Only in 1969 did he allow himself to be persuaded to publicly present his artwork, in occasion of the "1st International Art Trophy" in Ladispoli (near Rome), winning a gold medal.

Narducci is presently a member of the Driving Committee of the "La Cerqua" Painters Association of Bracciano, and has served as Treasurer since the association was founded (March 19th, 1989).

L'ARTISTA

Pierino Narducci è nato nel 1937 ad Arpino (Lazio–Italia) ed oltre che nella cittadina natale ha vissuto a Macerata, Torino, Chiavari, Caserta e Roma. Attualmente risiede a Bracciano (Roma).

Già da bambino la sua attitudine artistica era evidente ed a scuola il suo maestro, Carlo Di Benedetto, lo incaricava di disegnare sulla lavagna in sua vece. Ha frequentato corsi per cartellonisti ed illustratori (Torino, 1955-56), corsi per la preparazione alla maturità artistica (Torino, 1956-58) e per figurinisti di moda e di taglio (Torino, 1959-61); ha avuto come maestro di nudo il pittore napoletano Domenico Spinosa; ha conseguito la maturità artistica (Napoli, 1964) e frequentato per qualche tempo la facoltà di architettura saltuariamente (Roma, 1965-68).

Questi tempi lunghi della sua formazione artistica sono conseguenza della necessità di avere un impiego fisso, che fortunatamente Narducci ha trovato nell'ambito della meteorologia, attività che richiede e sviluppa doti intuitive e che gli consente di applicare anche le sue doti di grafico, come ha potuto fare nel realizzare decine e decine di carte climatologiche e diversi fascicoli illustrati per l'insegnamento della meteorologia. L'ultimo è un numero speciale della rivista "L'Esploratore" (Roma, 1974).

Non abbiamo quindi a che fare con un pittore della domenica, ma con una personalità dotata di seria preparazione che si è sottratta ai condizionamenti inevitabili del professionismo e conserva sotto molti aspetti il fascino dei naifs.

II suo forte sono i ritratti, che egli esegue con svariate tecniche e con particolare diletto, tanto da lamentarsi perché oggi si trovano poche persone che dispongano del tempo necessario a posare per un pittore. Notevoli sono anche molte sue vedute urbane, spesso permeate da una luce aurorale di stampo impressionistico che si ritrova in talune opere di Maurice Utrillo.

Soltanto nel 1969 si è lasciato convincere a presentarsi al pubblico, in occasione del "1° Trofeo Internazionale d'Arte" di Ladispoli (Roma), ottenendo una medaglia d'oro.
